Situated on the Hvítá River, the mesmerising and voluminous Gullfoss tumbles down a two-tiered drop into a rugged canyon. Each day, thousands of gallons (around 80 cubic meters per second) of water plummet 32m, before continuing their charging journey along a narrow chasm. On sunny days, when the waterfall’s mist hits the rays, it possible to spy rainbows. In winter the water often twinkles as the light hits ice particles.
