Vienna’s neo-Gothic City Hall, completed in 1883 by Friedrich von Schmidt (who designed Cologne Cathedral) and modelled on Flemish city halls, with lacy stonework, pointed-arch windows and spindly turrets, is the highlight of the Ringstrasse boulevard’s 19th-century architectural ensemble. Bronze statues of Joseph Lanner and Johann Strauss I, stand in the fountain-filled Rathauspark.
