Ho’okena Beach Park is located 25 miles south of Kailua-Kona. From Kona International Airport at Keahole. Those who enjoy natural and rugged, will fall in love with Hookena. From the colorful area residents and funky shacks to the brightly colored flags near the campsites, this beach is not only off the beaten path but can be an offbeat and free thinking experience. The soft grey sand shoreline runs the length of Kauhako Bay ending at the base of the sea cliffs. The beach at the base of the cliffs are the best for swimming snorkeling and even launching kayaks. At the center of the beach, remains of the old pier are still visible. It is here where snorkeling is best and divers will find a bounty of colorful reef fish in between the old pier posts.
